The Trucking GPS,
World Nav 7100

World Nav 7100 GPS

A large 7" color screen comes with this trucking GPS. The Worldnav GPS 7100 is a GPS for trucking.

With pre-loaded maps of North America it insures that routes will follow truck suitable roads. The user can enter their load specifications which will be taken into consideration when the route is created. You can even enter your Hazmat information as the 7100 supports 9 levels of Hazmat routing.

The menu is straight forward and creating routes is easy. You can select one of the 12 million Points of Interest or enter the destination address or select a previously saved destination. You may customize your route by specifying roads to avoid, create the shortest route or the fastest route. This trucking GPS will allow you to enter an unlimited number of your own waypoints. The World Nav 7100 comes with "Text to Speech" which enables the unit to speak the street name on which to turn, in addition to what direction to turn and when to turn. If you miss a turn or make a wrong turn the 7100 will get you back on course. The maps may be viewed in 2D and 3D and any restricted roads will be shown in pink. The maps come pre-loaded on a SD card so to update the maps you just need the current SD card. No computer is necessary although you can backup your SD card on your PC.

Navigation isn't the only thing that the 7100 provides. It comes with a MP3 player along with a video player for those relaxing times. An additional safety feature is automatic reverse camera detection which allows you to see the camera video immediately upon putting the vehicle into reverse. (Camera sold separately, Mfr. Part Number: 2600).

The trucking GPS includes a 1 year limited warranty against defects in hardware manufacturing. Accessories and SD card are warranted for 90 days. Program upgrades are free for 90 days, map upgrades are subject to charge.

product will take you way out of route when you know a shorter legal route

I purchased this GPS with great anticapation. I drive a truck for a living. Getting directions through city streets are critcal. This product is terrible on rerouting, does'nt have addresses listed that have been around forever. The display sucks. Can't see it under sunny conditions.

Does not do what it claims to do.Forget long trips because it will send you 75 miles out of route for a 450 mile trip. You would think that the prefer freeways mode would keep you on the interstate but it doesent, running business roads along side the interstat doesn't make sense with stop lights and everything else that goes with being on those type of roads. If you already have one dont wait for them to try and fix the problem for you.Remember you have 30 days to return it and they will ask you to wait past that amount of time and call them back.

The car mode on this unit works better for trucks and can be trusted more.It was to the point where I would check the whole route after putting in a destination and it would still screw up.For some reason while driving will recalculate route while driving and change route.Realy pisses you off when your pulling a 53 ft with a sleeper in Jersey and it tells you to go south on a road and after you get on it, it says make a u turn.Or instead of simply leaving a customer and taking a left to rt17 to 3 to the pike has you driving all over the city.Totaly wrong and a dangerous. The bridge avoidence would work great if I could fit a 13.6 under a 11 ft bridge.Lucky for me I've been driving for 15 years and when it told me to do something stupid I would know better.

Pros: Acquires Satellites Quickly, Easy Menus, Easy To Set Up, Large Screen, Simple Controls
Best Uses: Finding Specific Address, Planning Trips, Urban Navigation

I put mine through the test I-75 in Michigan B4 border to Canada, and it did not pick up bridge construction or detours around. Otherwise ok so far.

Pros: Easy To Read
Cons: Short Battery Life

Just an fyi - the early models released had software issues. Teletype has thankfully resolved the issues and the new units are perfect. I found this out the old fashioned way by buying one when first released in 2008 and then waiting to buy another in April 2009.

I'm a professional truck driver. I have used this GPS unit for over 2 months now. i can say that it's a pretty good unit for finding addresses and businesses. It is also pretty good on keeping truck away from low clearance overpasses and such. Now the bad. The unit does not have the basic knowledge of truck routes. It does occasionally put me on restricted routes. It does not know the turn restrictions for 53 or 48 foot trailer semi. It tells me to make a turn in places where not even car can make the turn. And for some weird reason it thinks that PA Turnpike, US22 in PA and I59 in Alabama, is truck restricted. So in other words not very reliable product. I would definitely not trust it around big cities like NYC or Chicago. It will get you in serious trouble. The unit needs to have software to be reworked and errors to be corrected and then it might be a good tool. The bottom line is-way too many errors on truck routing.

I have had this unit for 6 months. It worked good. Not always the best route. Does not consider local truck routing restrictions. Now it is unable to create routes and I am unable to access my stored waypoints. [...]Now I have to pay to ship it to them and hopefully they will be able to fix it. Not a customer friendly product.
