A truckers GPS the World Nav 3300
Details, Owner comments and ratings

World Nav 3300

This truckers GPS has a 3.5" color touch screen and comes with pre-loaded Navteq maps of North America.

The World Nav 3300 allows the user to enter their load specifications. For example, a typical set of restrictions for a semi-trailer could be entered as 13'6" height, 80,000 lb weight, 53' length and 96" width. The truckers GPS will then use this information when it creates your route. You can even enter Hazmat information as it offers 10 levels of Hazmat routing.

This unit has text to speech allowing it to pronounce street names, in addition to when and what direction to turn. Unlike many truckers GPS units, the maps are installed on a replaceable SD card thus you can upgrade your maps without a computer. Your maps may be viewed in 2D or 3D with restricted roads shown in pink on the screen. When creating a route you can enter an address, intersection or one of the 12 million Points of Interest. You can also customize your route by avoiding tolls and other restrictions.

When your route is created the 3300 takes into account commercial truck restrictions such as bridge heights and clearances, load limits, one-way road designations, left-hand and dangerous turn restrictions and allowances. It insures that routes will follow roads suitable for truck travel.

This truckers GPS comes with Lithium Ion batteries with a battery life of about 2 hours.

I am a long-haul trucker with over 16 years experience. I know what it is like to be lost pulling a 53' van in Queens:(. I currently own several gps devices (Navigon,Magelian,NUVI). I purchased my Worldnav Trucker GPS from EBAY.com thinking "at last, a gps device for trucks that will get me to my p/u's and deliveries stress free". Ha...What a POS. First, the screen is hard to read during the day (washed out) and too bright at night(the route is highlighted by a bright yellow overlay that is distracting). The keyboard is not "qwerty". I had a load p/u in Qeens. NY and I entered the address to the shipper. It could not find anyway to get me to there!!!..even after I changed the setting to "car"!? Very slow loading routes and rerouting. It has put me truck restricted routes several times and I no longer trust this product. Updating it is a nightmare. I just had a load in KY and it routed me into a residential area..I ended up making an illegal u-turn to get back on the main road. Had a load to Boston..again it was unable to find a route to cust. My Magelian 1412 Roadmate got me there! It is next to useless and potentially dangerous. I know some poor trucker will get this and blindly follow whatever route it tells hme to go. Cust service is a joke..would not answer my emails regarding the issues listed above. WorldNav sucks anyway you slice it..do yourself a favor and get a Magelian Roadmate 1412 ($129 to $199)..not a trucker gps but the screen is the best (day/night) and it is very easy to use..big screen and touchscreen keys.

I use this GPS unit everyday in my truck, and so far it does everything it's supposed to do.I did notice one problem once, that at one destination, if I wasn't familliar with my stop, I would have missed a neccesary turn that It did not warn me about, but that only happened once, and I have had no other problems since.I think it was a overall good buy.If you buy this unit be sure to register it in order to get updates free for a limited time.

Purchasing the World Nav GPS was a bad mistake, couldn't wait to get home and return it. The unit has a long way to be developed before it will ever be worth using in a commercial vehicle, or any vehicle for that matter. The performance and accuracy is horrifing!! We left Goddard, KS for Riverside CA with no restrictions on the load. It insisted we go I35 to OKC, OK and out I40. That is what the shortest truck route and auto route it gave us. We went down Hwy 54 to I 40. It took all the way into Tx before it rerouted a different route. Then it tried to send us to Clinton Ok and out to CA. If you are a professional driver you know that is ridiculous. We went our route to CA. When we arrived in Riverside, CA it told us the 60 frwy was restricted and we needed to exit. Oh and when we went to Philadelphia we went in found the shipper, loaded and came back out. It was still trying to go in even after it was programed for a new location in In.

There were many more examples, however, needless to say we were not pleased with the World Nav or it's performance. Sent it back and purchased a Garmin 765T. Even though it is not a commercial routing gps just a little common sense should suffice.

Pros: Easy Menus, Easy To Read, Simple Controls
Cons: Inaccurate, Short Battery Life

As a truck driver I know the unit is great when it works, however, I cannot honestly stand behind it due to the many issues it has.Software has a lot of inaccuracy, I am on my fifth sd card now,[...] so be ready to be frustrated for weeks at a time.

Pros: None
Cons: Inaccurate, Difficult Menus

This product is useless. I drive a Tractor trailer in the Chicago area. I used this for a week. It's maps and street names are out dated. It tries to take you on roads with weight restrictions and under low clearances. [...]

By Fred, 1/26/2009

Cons: Bad Directions, slow, Bad maps, Pixelated UI, Inaccurate, Flimsy Mounting, Short Battery Life

Totally worthelss. The company wanted to charge me 90$ for a fix. The support was horrendeous and the device dosent even work.
