The TomTom Go 740 Live

The TomTom Go 740 Live, the newest of TomTom GPS units, will be released in the second quarter of 2009 with a suggested retail price of $499. Many of TomTom GPS units' features have been updated and improved. The Go 740 Live will provide live real time traffic through its' built-in sim card and GPRS modem. One year of service will be included with the purchase price.

Preloaded maps of the US and Canada are included along with a wide 4.3" touch screen. Like previous TomTom units, you have a 30 day map guarantee which allows free map updates up to 30 days after the purchase date.

"IQ Routes" has been improved over previous TomTom units. With the extended version, the TomTom GO 740 Live will calculate travel time based on historical information gathered for every day of the week and time of each day.

"Voice Activation" has been improved too. Unlike other TomTom units, you can now issue over 130 different voice commands and plan routes, change user options and make phone calls.

"Map Share" is also included in the new Go 740 Live. "Lane Assist" has been improved too and it gives a good picture of upcoming turns and intersections. Using "Google Search" you will be able to find local weather, fuel prices and more. "Text to Speech" is standard with the 740 Live. This feature will enable the GPS to give verbal instructions including street names.

This is definitely a huge step forward for TomTom and it will be interesting to see how well the unit performs in real time when it is released.
