Out of the box went to the TomTom website and did the updates. Yet the thing didn't work correctly. No voice or erratic voice messages during trips. Eventually found on TomTom website it's a known glitch with the software release on this model. The work-around requires keeping the volume at 80% or below and keeping a box option checked on the volume screen. A pain to say the least especially while we were trying to figure out what was the problem. TomTom's website promises a future update fix. Otherwise and now using the work-around the thing works good. I like the traffic updates and the "Minimize delays" button. Free map updates for life is very nice. This model warns you when coming up on traffic/speed cameras (very handy!). Work zones are also displayed. The mount is very good when placed beside and slightly higher than the rear view mirror on the windshield. If it weren't for the software glitch I'd say this product was exceptionally good. I've never wrote a review before, but I was so excited when I updated my 350 today I just had to. The update adds some missing features to the gps, including a text listing of driving directions and some extra options including the ability to avoid certain roads in that list. It also now enables the user to set the brightness of the unit and show a text display of the direction your vehicle is driving in (i.e. SW, W, etc). It also added many more customization options. In short this new update gave the unit many of the features that other gps's and previous TomTom models already had. Plus it keeps all the positives on the new Easy Menu. This brings the unit from three stars to five in my opinion. I definitely wouldn't hesitate buying it now. By Maleb, July 29, 2010
I purchased this unit specifically for the lifetime Maps and Traffic. I tell you, those features are unbeatable for the price of the unit. However, these features definitely come at a cost to features. I had the 730 before, and thought it was excellent in what was offered from a feature base. It seems TomTom went out of there way to limit the capabilities of the 350. No auto-off, no customizations for routing preferences or display, etc. If they'd just make a few software changes to enable more choices, this unit would Rock!! Otherwise, it does only the basics, if you are ok with that, the lifetime updates make the device! Owner Ratings
