I received one as a gift. It worked great and had convenient features. It had everything you want in a nice light small package. Unfortunately for me, all those nice features only lasted three usages. That's right, on only the third time I used it in a car, it went out and no longer started. I went to the support website and followed the charging and resetting procedures, but still no go. I am in the process of sending it back to TOM TOM, since it is still under warranty. Do your homework on the internet and you will find that my problem with this device is not unique. Don't just query the name of the product, but query the name with "problems" and "troubleshooting." You will see for yourself why this TOM TOM model is a possible waste of your money.

Well someone has to get the bad units and judging by all the refurbished units on the market I would guess these have a higher then normal failure rate. I purchased ours a little over a year ago and we haven't it used much. It has probably been powered on less then 50 times total. Yesterday the little guy locked up and despite trying to use the reset button and even letting the battery fully discharge it is stuck on the intial TOmTom screen everytime it powers up.

TomTom One 3rd Edition

When we did use it the maps were easy to follow and it would get us to where we needed to go but the routes were not always the most direct and even when I would have thought the next obvious route would have been the second choice when hitting the recalculate route button, that was not the case. Often the recalculated routes would take you far out of your way and miss the obvious choices (like main highways leading directly to your destination). So even if you were to discount my one star rating as coming from a disgruntled owner of a bad unit, I would have given this unit only 3 stars if it were still working. I have an entry level Garmin and like that a little more. Even at just over $100 dollars per unit I have an expectation it will last more then 50 power up cycles.

That the Tom Tom site has "My unit locked up" as one of their frequently asked questions should also be a hint that their product has faults. The work around they prescribe didn't work in my case either leaving me with a brick.

This is my first product review ever, so I must be pretty mad. This GPS has a nice software interface, but the maps are horribly out of date. Sometimes I will follow a highway and the map does not even recognize that the highway is there (location: Texas). About one year into using this device it started having trouble with the LCD screen. The screen would be almost white at startup and then eventually warm up to where I could use it. After talking to customer support they told me to update the unit. Well, it would not update. So they told me to format it. It would not format. So the unit is one month out of warranty and it was functional when I called customer support. Now it does not work.

I've had this product for over a year now and I couldn't be more satisfied.

TomTom One 3rd Edition

Pros:
-This gives me fairly accurate directions (it does have a tendency to announce sometimes that you have arrived when actually you are 100+ feet away... but all I do is slow down and look around).
-It has an option where I can avoid a portion of the route... very nice. While driving from Boston to New Jersey, I know the George Washington Bridge is going to have traffic so I simply avoid that portion of the route and walla... it automatically navigates me through some other bridge.
-Also, it has many different ways of entering address... so that you do not need to know the complete address always. There is no need to enter both zip and city name... either one will suffice.
-This is built very tough (see explanation** below)

Cons:
-My only complaint would be that the mounting cup looses suction soon and my GPS keeps dropping approximately once every 45 minutes. But there are ways to work around this though (easiest one is to apply few drops of water in the suction cup before sticking it to the windshield if you dont mind the dirty stains on your windshield).

Pros (contd):
-**But the above mentioned complaint also let me discover probably the strongest advantage of this GPS. It is built very strong. I have managed to drop it almost 40 times so far, but it still works as well as it did on day one.
-Best of all, its cheap.

So to summarize, this product is a no-frills GPS and its meant to provide you with driving directions - It excels in doing its job!

Works great, but make certain you don't touch the screen when it is in use, or all your requested info - what you are using at that time - gets erased! so wherever you put it when using it, make sure it will not fall.

Product works well. One set back is that it does not go on automatically when you start your car. The second set back is it does not automatically switch to night vision, you must do that manually as well. I also own another competitor GPS and it does both automatically. Other than these 2 reasons it does perform well and worth the price.

By DegreetoBuy, 01/06/2009

Very easy to use; however, the directions are hard to follow sometimes. Great for finding local points of interest. Adjusts the directions if you miss your turn or get lost. Easily connects to your pc to update maps. NOTE: street names are not given in the directions.

I have owned my tomtom for about a year now and it has never failed me. I especially love the the favorites feature, I have alot of family and freinds that live all over the place, after I program their addresses, all I do is select thier name and thats it. It does the rest for you. I also love that it gives you real time corrections and monitors your speed.

I am happy with the new product I recieved... I'm a little dissapointed that the battery life on it is not as good as I expected which mean I have to keep on charging it everytime I use the device. In overall though I am pleased with it.

By HuntNFish, 11/26/2008

The GPS unit would have worked fine, however it does not recognize addresses in rural Wisconsin. Those addresses are long and have two components to the address that involve N, S, E, or W. Example, N123 S12345 Jefferson Street. This address will not work and as a result, I will be returning the unit. It is useless for work purposes. I even called the TomTom support line and they verified that the address would not work. We even tried just entering the 12345 S Jefferson Street to see if it would work and it did not.
