Explore The TomTom 630 a TomTom Auto GPS, Reviews, Ratings and Features

TomTom Auto GPS unit, the TomTom 630, is a proprietary product made for and distributed by Radio Shack. This TomTom auto GPS sports a wide 4.3" screen and it comes with preloaded maps of the US and Canada, which may be updated under the TomTom map guarantee. You have 30 days after the purchase date to update your maps for free. It also includes "Map Share" which when you first access the TomTom Home download, you will be asked if you wish to join Map Share (this is recommended). If you do, when you make a correction to your map, it will be automatically uploaded the next time you go to TomTom download and the other members' corrections will be downloaded to your maps. The TomTom 630 has many desirable features. "Text to Speech" is included and is a very useful addition to this TomTom auto GPS. This enables the unit to announce the street name on which you should turn, in addition to when and what direction to turn. It also includes "Voice Activation". Although this is only functional for entering addresses, it is a nice feature. Unfortunately, you still have to use the touch screen to complete entering addresses. Routes can be created in a number of ways. You can enter the address directly, or from one of the 3 million preloaded Points of Interest. You can also select a previous destination or Home. "Itinerary Planning" which is available to create multi destination routes, is very useful for those who make deliveries or sales calls. "Lane Assist" will get you in the correct lane for the approaching turn. This particular TomTom auto GPS also can use "IQ Routing" which uses data collected by TomTom Traffic and can advise you as to the best route to take based on projected traffic. For instance, use the freeway on week-ends and not on Monday morning. According to TomTom, this information is based on millions of miles logged by its users. Routes can be further customized by excluding freeways, tolls, asking for the shortest route or the fastest route. Other features include the "Help" icon which, when touched, will give you the location and phone number of the nearest police station, fire station, hospitals and more. It will also give your current location to allow you to give accurate driving instructions to your location. If your cell phone is linked to the on board bluetooth technology (see below), it can make the phone call for you. A SD card slot is built into the unit. With a SD card (not included) you can download your favorite music, pictures and more. The TomTom auto GPS unit has a photo viewer, a document viewer, iPod control, TomTom Juke Box to name a few. Bluetooth technology is also included. With a compatible cell phone you can make "hands free" phone calls and it will even answer incoming calls for you. To check if your cell phone is compatible go to Tomtom Bluetooth Phone Compatibility. Traffic alerts are optional with the TomTom 630. You can purchase the FM receiver and with a subscription to the service, access TMC traffic. Check out their service areas here: Total Traffic Network coverage With a bluetooth compatible cell phone you can subscribe to TomTom Plus. To find out more on TomTom Plus check here: TomTom Plus Services. To use this feature you may also have to purchase a data package from your cell phone service if you don't already have one.

TOMTOM GO 630
Pros: Large Screen, Acquires Satellites Quickly, Compact, Simple Controls, Easy To Set Up, Reliable Performance Cons: Difficult Menus
Love the FREE Map share, so I don't have to pay for future down loads. I also love the diffrent program I can down load for the added futures, like voice commands, picture icons and map details, I just wish the voise command works a little better, oh well can't ask for everything. Pros: Easy To Read, Reliable Performance, Acquires Satellites Quickly, Large Screen, Easy To Set Up, Compact, Easy Menus, Simple Controls Cons: Bluetooth stays connected, Doesn't turn off
Great product. Doesn't always take the fastest route but it always gets you there. Be careful with the bluetooth connection to your phone because sometimes the unit turns on in the case and then all your calls/texts go through the tom tom. I couldn't live without it! Helping me to feel free in a new city and never afraid to just hop in the car and drive! I love TomTom. By Chris the Mainer!, 1/2/2009
Good at getting input from the satellites quickly. can even read them from indoors!! easy to update POI's and Add them as you go! Plus hand free calling, and the tomtom home site allows you update at will, and share your corrections with the site!! Pretty neat little gadget! I upgraded from a garmin streetpilot and I am glad I did!! By Crystal, 12/28/2008
This is a great system. It is worth it to pay a little more and purchase this one. It is very easy to use and very accurate. It will put you back on track if you make a wrong turn instantly. I tend to be be bad with directions when I am traveling in unfamiliar places. Now I don't have to stress about getting to my destination and carrying around 10 sets of directions.
