TomTom 125

The TomTom 125 really got attention when TomTom featured the introductory sale price for under $100. Although its' MSRP is $179, you can still get one for close to that sale price. Equipped with a compact 3.5" screen and maps of the lower US 48 states plus Puerto Rico, TomTom advertises this as a "plug and go" device which will get you where you want to go right out of the box.

The Maps can be viewed in 2D and 3D and carry the 30 day update guarantee. You may update your maps at no charge for the first 30 days after the date of purchase. This guarantees that you will have the latest maps available from Tele Atlas. To be able to avail yourself of the TomTom updates, you will have to download the TomTom Home free software to your PC or Mac. When you log in, you will be asked if you wish to join "Map Share". This is recommended as it will allow you to get the latest changes to your maps for free from other users and you can upload the changes that you have made. Using the TomTom Home software also allows you to add Points of Interest, change voices and get the latest software upgrades. You will also be able to update "Quick Fix" which enables your GPS to load satellite information faster and protects you from loosing signal due to "building fade" where tall structures, tunnels, etc block the signal.

The TomTom 125 comes equipped with an "Easy Port" mount. This unique mount folds neatly to the back of the unit allowing you to take the One 125 and mount with you.

Traffic alerts is an optional feature on the TomTom 125. Although it is RDS- TMC traffic compatible, you will have to purchase the receiver separately. The receiver comes with a 1 year subscription to the service. Check Total Traffic Network coverage to make sure your driving area is covered. This option provides real-time traffic information across the US, using the most accurate and up-to-date sources. It will also give detailed incident reports, delay times estimated, alternative routes proposed and if enabled, automatic rerouting.‌ In addition, you will receive accurate real-time warnings about dangerous road conditions ahead (fog, snow, ice and so on) anywhere in Europe, Australia and the US. (TomTom application version 6.0 or higher). When you buy new maps, the Traffic service automatically becomes available in those countries too. The on-screen or voice alerts are customizable depending on what you want.

The"Help Me" safety feature, will give your current location plus the address and phone number of the closest fire and police station in addition to the closest hospital and more.

Although TomTom provides some other voices for you to choose from, there are a number of 3rd party vendors that also provide some "fun" voices for your TomTom. Some of these are even free. Go to GPS Voices for more information.

This is a great product for the money. Had some difficulty after initial use. Could not get GPS signal. It cleared up after I hooked up to my computer and registered the device & downloaded updates. Very happy with this purchase.

This is my 4th GPS, but the first TomTom. I got it for less than $100, but it is by far the best and most efficient one that I have ever used. It does everything you need a GPS to do, and for less than half of what most others would cost. I highly recommend it.

TomTom 125 - I bought one when it was on sale for $99 and returned it a few days later after it failed multiple test drives.

PRO:
Reads direction out loud and has a map

CONS:
English function uses British terms(i.e. instead of highway it says motorway)
You have to keep an eye on the map because directions can be confusing
If there are many lanes AND a fork, it will say keep to the right.... it could mean keep to the right of the fork or stay in the right lane of the fork going to the left.
Right can mean left and left sometimes means right
Take the exit ahead (which one?)
Turn onto exit now (too late...)
Very slow with recalculations
You have to look for your destination
I was going to a restaurant and saw it on my right and the directions said to turn left. Later I followed the directions and ended up 3 miles away at a suite of offices instead.

Perhaps I had a defective product, but I would rather spend more money on a GPS where I can keep my eye on the road.

Been at UPS for over 30 years. Have been holding off from getting a GPS. Always thought that the maps were a better idea. But after using this little guy there's no turning back! It can fit in my pocket or I can prop it up in my cup-holder in front of the wheel and it takes me whereever I need to go! And for the price it can't be beat!

I just bought the TomTom over the weekend because my husband was going to an unfamiliar city for training. We hooked it up and drove it around our home town to check it out and it worked ok, but when we set it up to get him from home to his destination today, it took the longest route there. I don't like how you have to change the map and delete out towns you don't want to go through to make it a quicker route. Other than that, it did great and got him where he needed to go, it just took an hour longer than it should have!

TomTom 125 - Really enjoyed the product it is accurate and the speech is clear the only drawback is the size of the screen.

Ok so we buy the TomTom and go home to up date it. turns out theres not enough space on the TomTom to do an update. TomTom wants you to delete some files in the TomTom in order to update. we had a garmin some time ago and loved it. Time to go back to garmin!

TomTom 125 - Location was showing incorrect position by two lots, but have connected to Tom Tom home and installed the updates of QuickGPSfix it is now showing correct position. It is nice to know a device can be updated just by plugging in to a PC. I had another device from CVS for dummies that I believe didn't have this type of updating. Plus you can post incorrect street and other problems that can be fix, which is one of the reasons I choose this device. I used the device right out of the box and it works great. If you get a one, connect to the PC and get the updates.
