Tom Tom Rider a GPS for Motorcycle
The Tom Tom Rider GPS for motorcycle was designed just for bikers. The TomTom Rider 2 GPS has many motorcycle navigation features, but can also be used in your car, although the car mounting kit is optional. With pre-loaded Navteq maps of North America on its SD card and a bright, glove friendly, 3.5" color screen, the TomTom Rider 2 GPS will get you where you want to go. If a newer version of your map is available within 30 days of first using your device, you can download it for free at TomTom GPS HOME. You will need to download the TomTom GPS Home software from the internet. Maps may be viewed in 2D and 3D and with Map Share you can make modifications to your maps at any time for free. A new feature is the Cardo scala-rider® wireless Bluetooth® headset for in-helmet spoken instructions which is included in the purchase price. TomTom RIDER GPS doubles as a hands-free call kit, with Bluetooth® technology so you can take calls via your touchscreen as you ride. For safety reasons, outgoing calls are blocked while the bike is moving. But when you accept an incoming call, it's automatically routed to your earpiece/pad. And to make a call, just pull over, tap the screen and talk. With your helmet and gloves still on! The Tom Tom Rider 2 is also equipped with a USB port and cable for PC connection. The included Lithium Ion battery will provide up to 5 hrs of battery life and the RAM mounting kit fits most any bike. Plan your route to suit your needs - quickest, shortest, by required arrival time, avoiding toll roads and motorways and more. You can plan your route at home on your PC or overnight on the road on the RIDER itself. Program the schedule of places you're visiting and set up your entire tour before even pulling on a glove. Millions of Points of Interest are included with the unit. You can even keep track of your buddies with the TomTom Buddies service. This allows you to communicate with and navigate to your buddies directly on your TomTom GPS device. This service is governed by the Terms and Conditions for Services made available by TomTom via its website. To find out more just click TomTom Buddies. Other services are also available for your Tom Tom Rider. Get a real-time overview of the weather before setting off, including 5-day forecasts for all the places you're going to be. Real-time services require a compatible Bluetooth® phone and subscription with full internet access via your mobile phone ('GPRS' subscription). You can also download funny and famous voices for a bit of variety and fun on the road. All in all, this is a good unit, but I feel it has one major short-coming in that it does not offer text to speech.

By Michael B. Handy, May 12, 2009 Every thing about this unit is great except for the fact that the screen can not be seen in bright sunlight rendering it almost useless. By Steven Shafrer "SKS", May 11, 2009 A bit pricy for what you get. I already had 2 sets of Scala Rider Q2 head sets. Would have prefered to have payed less and just bought the TomTom Rider 2 without the Scala headset. Does not come with car adapter.
Works just like regular GPS but more expensive for what you get. Screen is hard to see on sunny days even in the shade. By N. Groh, February 1, 2009 If you have ever used TomTom before, you will catch on to this in a snap. If not, playing around with the settings and controls will get you comfortable quickly. Good- Precise directions most of the time. Quick sync w/ satellites. New computer software easy to use. Headset works surprisingly well. Not so good- Concerned on the actual strength of motorcycle mount. Seems a little cheaper than I think it should. Time will tell if the braces snap in half though. Once installed, power cable and all, the mount is meant to be left in place. I do not use GPS every day, I wish there was a solution to being able to remove and hide the power cable without being unsightly. Bad- Expensive! I got a bargain on this, and it is still much more expensive than standard GPS products. Also as a consideration, you need the car mount kit to get audio while in the car, which then must be plugged in to power the speaker at all times. Best Buy

Pictorial screen is great, directions and features on screen work well.
Cannot be used with the hard wired intercom system and headphones I use with my Harley. No way to hear voice commands from the Rider 2. With my built in headphones in my Nolan helmets, there is no room for the Bluetooth mic and headphone that comes with the Rider 2. It needs a way to connect to a speaker system other than Bluetooth. the on/off switch is almost unworkable, hard to push. If you have it hard wired to your bike for charging it well start up each time you turn the key on even if you don't want it to. This would be ok if it would also shut down automaticly when key was turned off. User manual almost non existent. I would probably look at other GPS's next time.
