Super Trackstick

The Super Trackstick is a passive GPS racking device. As one of many spy detective vehicle tracking devices the Trackstick requires no fees and has a battery life up to 6 weeks. With the Trackstick you can record your entire trip or use it covertly to track where your teenager has been. Just 4-1/2” X 1-1/4” X 3/4” it comes with a weatherproof case, detachable magnetic mount and belt clip and is easily mounted on about anything you wish to track.

The Super Trackstick is a passive recording GPS tracker. It plugs directly into the USB port on your computer and uses Google Earth to display your track information. It will record and display the exact route, stop times, speed, direction and other valuable information. The Super Trackstick even has its own built in temperature recorder to monitor and record it's environment.

The software and Google Earth can be downloaded from their web site however, the software is for PC computers only. Plug the device into your USB port and start reviewing the logged data.

Using just 2 AAA batteries it will provide full power tracking from 3 to 6 days with Alkaline batteries and 1 to 2 weeks with Lithium Ion batteries. Sleep mode varies from 2-3 weeks with Alkaline to 6-8 weeks with Lithium Ion. The Super Track Stick is provided with a vibration detector which will put the unit in sleep mode when no vibration is detected, saving battery life. The 4 MB of flash memory ensures that the Super Trackstick will log weeks or even months of travel histories (up to 16,000 waypoints). User selectable features allow the record time to be changed from an interval of every 5 seconds, or from 1 minute to every 15 minutes.

Because this is a self contained system, no fees are required and your only cost will be for the unit and batteries. Super Trackstick will work anywhere on the planet. Using the latest in GPS mapping technologies from Google EarthTM, its exact location can be shown on satellite-based maps and 3D geographical terrain. If you don't need real time tracking, this is an inexpensive and convenient way to go.

I have used the Super Trackstick for about a month and find that, at best, it is quite temperamental. Specifically, its accuracy can be off by half a block, a parked car can show as moving its location multiple times, the batteries die with less than fifty hours of use, when the batteries die the Trackstick suddenly remembers days worth of previously erased data in its memory, and when the car first starts to move it can take over a mile before the first data point is logged. Its software is just short of user friendly, but the Google Earth interface is fantastic. In short, this is a fancy toy.

While the magnet is powerful, apparently it is not powerful enough. I put it on a vehicle, and the vehicle came back without it. It may have been wet, and it was a large vehicle that bounces around, but it shouldn't have fallen off.

After reading many reviews, I decided to rate my Trackstick.

The Trackstick is nothing like any of the other GPS tracking products on the market. Its software is very top rate with hundreds of different features. You can sort data, export to Google Earth (the Google Earth integration is flawless)

Because of the vast number of features, it can take some time to learn how to use the Trackstick propperly but when you do, the information you can get as a result is amazing.

The geotagging feature worked well for us when we were in Italy. It tagged every photo exactly where they were taken and showed all the ground we covered on our trip.

This is what I really like compared to the others:
-Software is amazing
-When used as instructed, batteries last a very long time. I calculated 10 times longer than my Garmin.
-Google Earth Integration is flawless
-Great product support
-The data and time filtering is very helpful
-Geotagging with Flickr was fun for family photos.

Overall, I give the Trackstick very high marks.

This product has many problems. Can't turn it on or off thus the batteries run down. Can't always count on it working with Satelite.

It comes with decent software - it was a bit finicky to install on both my XP and Vista machines, but it reads the locations out of the unit, has OK links to Google Earth, and exports GPX files OK.

The unit worked right out of the box. Picked up its location, and started recording readings right away.

Battery life just isn’t working out for me. It’s lasting only a day or two - much less than the advertised “over a month” of travel histories. I’ve written to the Canadian and US dealers, and they both report the same thing. Once the device is inside, and can’t get a fix - you better turn it off, or you’ll drain the battery quickly. I guess the motion detector is not working the way it should.
