The top of the Sky Caddie line

Sky Caddie

Top of the Sky Golf line is the Sky Caddie SG5, color screen and lots of features. The Skycaddie with it's unique golf GPS software will really help your game.

The Skycaddie SG5 is Sky Golf's top of the line unit. It has a bright color screen and supports IntelliGreen® technology. IntelliGreen® will automatically rotate the actual shape of the green to match your angle of approach. This Sky Caddie technology gives you a chance to turn every shot into a scoring opportunity by providing not just the front, carry and back from the center of the fairway, but the depth of green from your angle of approach and your selected line of play just like a Tour Caddie. You can move the cross hairs to any point on the green and get the yardages you need for precision approach shots.

"Mark Your Ball" allows you to find out how far you hit every club in your bag. Obviously, knowing your club distance is critical to playing a great round vs. playing an average round. Pair this with accurate distance measurement and you're on your way to a very enjoyable 19th hole.

When Sky Caddy maps a course, they walk every hole and map up to 40 targets per hole. Some of these targets would not be visible to satellite mapping or a laser range finder. AS you advance down the fairway (or rough) the hazards behind you drop off the screen and those between you and the green are shown.

Although a membership is not a requirement to using your Sky Caddy, (you can map the course yourself) you will probably want to subscribe to one. Check SkyCaddie membership plans to find one that fits your needs. The Sky Caddie SG5 will store up to 20 courses. Their course database is quite extensive, but you may wish to check it out to see the available courses in your area or where you play. Check out SkyCaddie golf course database.

I'll admit it...I tried a cheaper product made by Garmin. It locked up every three or four rounds. After trying three units I gave up and bought the SG5. It works great. The color screen is very easy to read in the sun. The charge lasts longer than I expected, usually three full rounds at least. My only complaint is that it's a little bigger than some of it's competitors. You can't slip it into your pocket to take a swing. But I've used it for six months and it's performed flawlessly. If you are thinking of saving a little money, I would not recommend any of the models with black and white screens (SG2.5, SG3, SG4). They are very hard to read in the sun; you have to constantly rotate the screen around to catch just the right angle. Although it lacks the features of the higher models, the SG2, with it's black-on-green screen, is easier to read. If you are thinking of buying anything but the SG5, I'd strongly recommend that you find someone who has the model you're considering, and check out the screen in the bright sunlight.

Just keep in mind you have to repay the membership fee every year or you SkyCaddie deactivates the courses you have downloaded. It just happened to me and I called SkyGolf to confirm. $50 per year for the multistate membership is kind of expensive.

My sky caddie is a little over a yr. old. Other than the significant annual cost for downloading courses, it was OK. It should also be noted that they will delete all courses from you sky caddie if you do not pay your annual "dues"!!! This also happen to one of our bag boys @ our club as he was playing golf with his sky caddie. My wife's sky caddie was also "turned off" and all courses deleted!!!.

Recently they completely changed software that was easy to use and simple to download courses. The new software (I downloaded the sofware three times after deleting the original before redownloading.)does not even begin to work. E-mails to tech. support go unanswered. So if you are thinking about buying a sky caddie be careful.

This little gem works exactly as advertised. I never hit the course without it. Response time is great, screen is easy to read and yardage is accurate. What more can you ask for?

This product was one of 5 ordered for our golf group. All 5 have been, or need to be returned since they do not work. We have had them less than 6 months and they have to be sent back. To add insult to injury, Skygolf is saying one thing and then e-mailing different terms and conditions when they confirm the return of the Skycaddie. I was very pleased with the company when I had my SG 2 but it seems that times have changed. I would strongly suggest that potential customers explore other options.

Sky Caddie SG5 really does the job. Light weight, extremely accurate, easy to read, it is as indispensable as tees and balls. Useful even on home courses I've played for years ... really really useful on new tracks.
