The RoamEO GPS pet tracker a reliable, self contained system

The RoamEO GPS dog GPS tracking device need no subscription. A self-contained GPS pet tracking unit offers many features. This pet tracking GPS ranks high in GPS tracking dog collars. Find out why.The RoamEO dog tracker could be just the answer if the idea of paying subscription fees month after month to track your dog is not appealing. This self contained system will track your dog's location and no fees are required. The RoamEO GPS tracking system consists of a portable handheld receiver with a color LCD display: 2.2" H x 2.9" W; 320 X 240 pixels and a GPS enabled collar. The handheld receiver will show the location, direction and speed of your pet. The data updates every few seconds giving you "real time" information on your dog's location. The system is very easy to use. Charge the rechargeable batteries for both the receiver and collar, supplied with the unit. Put the collar on your dog and you're ready to go. The receiver can track up to three dogs simultaneously. You can set up a virtual fence by walking the perimeter of the desired area and storing this information in the system's memory. Should your pet leave this defined area, an audible alarm will alert you to the situation. As the "fence" is just electronic data you may erase it and create a new "fence" as many times as you wish. The system comes with rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries with an estimated battery life for the receiver of 8 hours and 10 hours for the collar. It takes about three hours to recharge the batteries. Estimated range for the RoamEO GPS is 1 to 1.5 miles. NEW ALERT RoamEO has ugraded their collar and the new collars are really an improvement. -
The new collars come in three sizes: The GPS dog collars will come in size Small/Medium 12.5" to 19" and size Large/Xlarge 20" to 28" No more on/off switch. When you clip the collar on your dog it automatically turns on. When you take it off it turns off. The batteries are now a removable, proprietary battery that the user can easily pop in and pop out and put on the new charging unit. Now you can have additional batteries that you can keep fresh on a charger at all times. There is no longer a box on the GPS dog collar. Everything is integrated directly into the collar itself, so the big bulky looking boxes are gone. The new battery life is now 24 hours per charge instead of 6-8 There will now be two improved ranges available. You can have a 1.5 mile collar and a 3 mile collar. The 3 mile collar will ONLY be available online. It will not be sold in Wal-Mart or Target or any large retailer.

This is for the most part a well designed and built system. The batteries seem to hold a charge well and in 7 months of occasional use I've not had any problems until last week. The collar will not turn on now. Ive returned the unit to the manufacturer in Minnesota. The gentleman that I spoke with in customer service (when you call, you get a real person immediately), was very accomodating and professional at the same time. I anticipate a quick resolution to the problem. That said, I do wish that the handheld receiver was not as bulky and/or that it came with a holster. It does fit into my jacket pocket but I have trouble getting my hand back in to get it out. In the summer when I'm not wearing a coat or jacket, I have to hold the receiver for the duration of a five mile hike. It won't fit into a jeans or shorts pocket, unless you have cargo pants. The range of up to one mile is adequate for me, but I could forsee situations where a greater range would be desirable. I have noticed that a dense forest canopy slows the tracking process, but does not by any means disable it.(In winter, with leaves down, tracking does not slow as much.) Overall,I would purchase the Roameo system again. By R. Rogers, November 22, 2008 We have a dog who lives to run as fast as she can. The best place for her to safely do this is in a nearby forest. But we have had a few situations where she scents a deer and off she goes. A nerve wracking time follows till she makes it back. Hence the collar. We were worried it would be too bulky or wouldn't work in the woods. But it is perfect; the collar fits well, and the device communicates beautifully even in dense vegetation. It is a breeze to use; the screen is clear and easy to read. An added benefit is the ability to draw a 'fence' around the location of our truck so we can find our way back to that as well. Zootoo

It's expensive, but I sure don't want to be wandering the neighbourhood looking for my dog and listening for the sound of screeching brakes, realising how worth it the purchase price is. This is the only pet GPS I found that doesn't require an ongoing subscription (pay that for your dog's whole life?) and a computer - it's a handheld rechargeable receiver that picks up the transmitter on the collar on your dog (also rechargeable). When my dog drops out of sight while I'm camping, I sure don't want to have to find phone reception or get to a computer to see where he's gone. This will find your dog within a mile radius and show you where the dog is in relation to where you're standing. It even tells you how fast he's travelling (I guess so you can decide to give up and get the car and head him off at the trail?). You can buy extra collars, and the receiver will track up to three dogs. It is designed to be waterproof for up to 30 minutes submerged, but it's still a bit cold here to try that out. I'm training a new (very fast) dog, and things don't always go as planned - having this is invaluable, and takes all the panic out of losing sight of your dog. RoamEO GPS owner Ratings
