The Petsafe Collar provides GPS tracking for dogs. This GPS collar allows pet tracking GPS information almost everywhere. A leader in GPS tracking dog collars Petsafe may be for you. Using AGPS tracking (assisted global positioning system) the PetSafe GPS collar will locate your pet throughout the United States (not available in Canada). This simple to use device will allow you to locate your pet 24/7. Its' small size, 3.75"x2.5"x1.25" is easily worn by your pet and it weighs just 4.2oz. It is recommended for pets 30lbs or larger.

A subscription to PetSafe is required. They offer two plans. See PetSafe service plans for more information. The good news is that both plans may be canceled within the first 30 days with no penalty and you can return the unit for a full refund.

Once you have subscribed, you can set up "home zone" boundaries. The default boundary is 300 feet but you can set your own. Should your pet leave the zone, the device automatically goes to Locate Mode enabling you to continually monitor your pet's location and providing coordinates on your personal PetSafe Collar GPS Locator web site.

You are alerted by phone, text message or email that your pet has left the home zone. When alerted, you may track him on the website or call the PetSafe customer care service 24/7 and a specialist will stay on line with you giving you directions to locate your pet. You may switch the unit to "walk mode" to leave your home zone if you wish.

Typical battery life is 4 to 5 days and you can elect to be notified when the batteries are low. All parts of your PetSafe GPS Locator are covered under warranty for the life of the product. Labor is covered for the first year of ownership. Thereafter, there is a minimum service charge for the repair or replacement of the product.

In short the product does work as advertised. While I am more than happy to not have used it yet - in the sense my dog hasn't ran away. I have tested the features of the device as and here are my thoughts:

1. I do not care for customer service only being open from 8AM to 8PM EST. However, the customer support was very good.
2. I think there is a method to sign up online for the service. However, the sign up process is not that clear. However, when you do call customer support they are more than happy to walk you through everything.
3. When you do attempt to locate your pet as noted on the web site it MAY TAKE up to 5 minutes. However, I have seen that it takes about 2 to 3 minutes in Los Angeles.
4. Also note, when you do sign up it takes about 4 hours to have your devices seen by the network. Mine took about 1 hour after I chatted with the customer service person.
5. There is a firmware update available for the device. It is very easy to do and brings some additional features to the device. Nothing to earth shaking.
6. The device is BULKY there is no doubt about that. While the box CLEARLY states that it is ideally used for 30 pound plus sized dogs. I did place it on my puppy Siberian Husky whom is about 18 pounds and the device simply looks huge... but hey she will grow into it.
7. Some odd things about this device is "programming it" - however once you get the hang of it ... its no real big deal.
8. NOTE: The device works on AT&T mobile network. Before you buy this device check to be sure you have solid coverage within your home area.

The PetSafe GPS locator has been doing a good job of tracking my dog when he strays outside my chosen home zone. It sends his location back as a prompt alert when the dog is in an area with good cell phone coverage. Even in areas with spotty cell phone coverage, the GPS unit will store the location and transmit it when the pet reaches a covered area. But the real “wow factor” of this product is the service that goes with it. I called PetSafe’s U.S. based customer service representatives for help several times. Each of them was patient and compassionate and stayed on the phone with me as long as I needed them to track my dog while I drove where they directed me. They all made me feel as though they cared as much about my dog as I do. I also like the PetSafe website, where I can easily review maps showing the dog’s locations or even use the website instead of customer service to locate the pet or change preferred settings.
