I am a long time owner of the Garmin StreetPilot 2720 and bought the Garmin nuvi 5000 for the larger screen. The larger screen is great but, it's performance is poor. A lot of the time routing is just bad, routing me in circles. Sometimes it tries to route me via an old destination. The POI function, even with the "On current route" feature shows POIs behind me and far off route. I am a Garmin fan but, I regret this purchase.

Great! Absolutely the best of the many that I have owned. I have no regrets purchasing this Nuvi 5000. I really like its features and 5.2" screen. By BadJeans, 12/27/2008
This is a wonderful way to travel to places you haven't been before. It takes all the worry out of traveling. It will take you right to their door. I feel safer with it. We love it. Take it everywhere. It hasn't failed up yet. Best Buy:

What's great about it: Large Screen; Pretty easy to use What's not so great: No internal battery; maps outdated; hassle to update
The 2008 map and points of interest loaded on the machine was outdated by 3 or 4 years for our area and was not very helpful at all to navigate. I had to spend $70 for a 2009 map and tried for 8 hours to download it unsucessfuly. I called customer support and they offered to send the disc for free, but gave me no other consolation for my headaches. Apparently you have two months after purchase to update the maps for free, which I wasn't aware of at time of purchase, nor would it have done me any good, since the 2009 version would not have been published then. The large screen is great, but that's really the only good feature you get for the high price. By Sabrehawk, 12/15/2008
What's great about it: Large responsive touch screen What's not so great: NO BATTERY! NO BLUETOOTH! Really? For this price?
I blame myself for not reading more about this product prior to purchasing it, but since the cheaper, smaller units had batteries and for the most part, bluetooth, I was highly disappointed that this one had neither. For what you pay, I think it should include two mounting kits for two vehicles, the MSN Direct Cable, a BATTERY, and bluetooth connectivity. It does what a GPS is supposed to do, and it shows where you are pretty accurately, but sometimes takes a lot longer to acquire satellites. By olcorral, 11/27/2008
What's great about it: Large easy read screen What's not so great: lack of Bluetooth
This unit has really help me find my way everywhere. While not being perfect, in my view, it is the best I could find for the money even though it is pricey. I love the screen size and the routing interface. The more I use the 5000, the more I feel I made a valuable investment. While it has no internal battery and no bluetooth, these were not deal breakers since I only use it in the car and have bluetooth on my visor. Bought the sandbag and carry case as well as the extended warranty. Don't leave the store w/o the extra warranty as it will cover the unit since it will be sitting in the sun and in the cold.
