Magellan Maestro 4350

Looking for that perfect GPS with all the "must have" features? The Magellan 4350 may be for you. Its' wide screen (4.3") and the new "OneTouch" menu help make the Maestro 4350 a top of the line unit for portable GPS systems.

Looking at the most desirable features offered, the Magellan 4350 has most of them. It comes with preloaded maps for North America and Puerto Rico, which may be viewed in 2D or 3D. It also includes 3D landmarks for some areas to help you get your bearings.

It's improved mounting bracket is now a ball and socket similar to the Garmin mount. Unfortunately, the power cable and traffic antenna hook directly to the unit rather than through the mount, causing you to disconnect the cables when you remove the unit from the mount.

Text to speech is included along with Bluetooth. With text to speech, the Magellan 4350 tells you when and what direction to turn along with the name of the street on which you should turn. Bluetooth enables you to set up "hands free" calling through a compatible cell phone. Check this web page to determine if your cell phone is compatible. Bluetooth compatible phones.

A 3 month trial period to Magellan traffic is also included. This feature will alert you to any traffic incidents, construction, etc. along your route. Should you encounter a slowdown or congestion, Magellan will give you the option to reroute around the incident. Click this link to make sure your driving area is serviced by the traffic service. Magellan Traffic service area.

Routing features include the ability to choose your route based on fastest time, shortest distance or most economical. It also includes automatic route recalculation and "Lane assist" which will advise you what lane to be in prior to the approaching turn. As you get close to the turn the highway sign for that turn is highlighted on the screen and the others are dimmed. The Magellan 4350 also supports "Multipoint" destinations. This allows you to create a route with multiple stops along the way. A great feature for making deliveries or sales calls. The 4350 includes vehicle profiles for cars, buses, taxis, emergency vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles. You can also create a route by selecting one of the millions points of interest or from the included AAA TourBook.

A safety feature included is "Where am I" which will give you your location and the location of hospitals, police, gas stations and restaurants.

Entertainment features include, the AAA TourBook which give enhanced descriptions of lodging, restaurants, theme parks, etc. If you have an AAA membership, you will also have access to member only information. This is in addition to the 6 million preloaded points of interest. A MP3 player, photo viewer, media player are also installed on this Magellan portable GPS. As a compliment to the media players, the included FM transmitter will transmit the 4350's sound over your car's FM radio.

Unfortunately, voice activation is not included in the Magellan 4350. Evidently a trade-off for the included entertainment features.

Magellan 4350 very good unit - Upon startup the satellite linkup was fast and never lost tracking with it. The routing never caused a freeze-up to the unit so-far, the screen is visible in daylight with the nice 2/3 d view plus lane assist the highlights the exit sign. Audio and visual are loud and clear menue is very simple to use making the gps part of this unit a great choice. Now the bells/whistles..bluetooth with lg515 phone works very well..uses sd card for mp3/pics..the hardware is good but would like a telescopic opt added to the arm...fm trans works well...can't pass judgement on customer servive yet for problems haven't had any yet. Haven't used the traffic option I have sirius and it had the reports live but they should make it free or add msn.lots of points of interest and the price I bought it for was great.

I purchased this GPS as a replacement for a Magellan GPS (also very good). I've been using this for almost two weeks and I have to say this is an excellent product.

I updated the firmware to the newest version (OS Version 00.42.01.0919 and Navigation Version 8.3.2.64084) and this has taken care of any complaint that I've see in some other reviews. The update using the Mageallan Content Manager is quite easy and I'd recommend doing this before using the GPS for the first time. I also updated the AAA POI file (New as of January 2009 V7.0). The GPS comes with the most current map set.

I have no problem with the GPS itself but some information is not provided. The CD that comes with it is, in general, just an ad. The only thing useful on the disc is the instruction manual. The best way to use it is to print out the 77 pages. The one important item in the manual that is missing is how to upgade from the Magellan site. There is a major upgrade for new purchasers. If you go to the Magellan site you can find it but it does not tell just how to get it on to your GPS. You have to download the Content Manager to your computer first then with the GPS unit turned off connect the USB data cable to your computer and the other end of th cable to the GPS. The GPS will show it is connected and the program will do a search and if elegible it will download the updates.

Pros - View is perfect
Cons - None

By: AndrewD, December 22, 2008

Pros - great display, love the mp3 player option, easy to use, internal computer makes it easy to complete a city or street name, you type the first letter and it eliminates all letters that wouldn't follow it.

Cons - none that I've found

I have had a few other gps units but this one is like goin from a go-cart to a cadillac. I didn't have to read the manual until I wanted to use the gps unit. extremely quick to reroute if I miss a turn, I've never had a unit that speaks the street names and it makes it sooo much easier to find my way around. I know there are other good units with less features but this is a great full feature, large display screen unit it that's what you're looking for.
