The Magellan RoadMate 9055 introduces Magellan’s largest screen yet for GPS navigation.

It has a huge 7” bright color touch screen. This Magellan GPS system is also compatible with Magellan’s upcoming release of their wireless backup camera, to be released later this spring. The 9055 come preloaded with Magellan maps of United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. It also includes a lifetime subscription to Magellan’s real time traffic update service provided by Naveteq in addition to many other features.

Huge 7" color touch screen As mentioned previously a large 7” color screen makes viewing maps much easier and if you should include the backup camera at a later date the large screen will be a plus. I bought this unit because I wanted a 7" GPS that had lifetime traffic, that was a mistake. I have to travel through 5 counties (Suffolk, Nassau, Queens, Bronx and Westchester) to get to work and the traffic coverage works for about 10 mins of my trip. I figured that they would have more than 5 feet of traffic coverage on this unit but, unfortunaly it does not. Before you buy make sure you check Magellan's website to see what the traffic coverage it like, so you dont make the same mistake I did.

Re-Routing is aggravating. If you choose to take a different route than it maps out for you it will keep trying to route you back to the route it wanted you to originally take, instead of just getting the best routes from where you are. My Garmin used to recalculate from where I was and got the quickest route from there.

All and all the unit is not all bad, (I know you cant tell from the glowing review) it has a big beautiful display and some nice features. But when all is said and done, I was not overly impressed and I will be returning it.

Best unit I have ever seen. Display is very crisp and quick. Unit is also very versatile asa bluetooth and phone conversations are very crisp and clear. Only 2 drawbacks to date(?). The first is that the battery fully charged lasts only about 1/2 hour. Since I use it inthe car where the car charger is constantly plugged in thru the holder, this is not much ofa problem. Also like so many other electronic devices these days, owners manuals oroperating manuals must be obtained on line. When you consider the cost consumerspay for some of these items, you would think they would also deserve a book tellingthem how to get the most out of it. Since this item is so new, maybe also extra optionalaccessories will be available soon.
