Magellan Road Mate new market offering the 1210 & 1220

Magellan Roadmate 1210

Introduced in April of 2009, the Magellan Road Mate 1210 and 1220 are Magellan's newest entries in the low priced GPS market. The only difference between these two entry level models is that the Roadmate 1220 has text to speech. This feature enables the unit to announce street names. So, instead of hearing turn left in 500 ft., you will hear turn left in 500 feet on Jones Ave. This is a great feature and for only a $20 difference in price, it is certainly worth it.

These units have a 3.5" color, touch screen and feature OneTouch™ entry. This feature affords instant access to your personalized bookmarks of favorite places and searches anywhere you travel. With a single touch, find your favorite café or restaurant when you're traveling within any city.

The Magellan Road Mate comes with preloaded maps of the lower 48 States plus Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Also included are millions of preloaded points of interest. You can search highway exit POIs which will show you gas stations, restaurants, hotels and more near upcoming highway exits. You can also search branded POIs which displays your favorite coffee shops, restaurants and more by their respective logos.

Although these are "entry level" units, they offer some very unique features found in high end units. QuickSpell® with SmartCity search narrows your address and city searches, making destination entry easy as the unit can anticipate your entry and complete the spelling for you. Or you can plan a route by simply touching your desired destination on the displayed map and create a route directly to it. An address book is included so you can enter POIs of your own.

You can customize your route by selecting the shortest distance or the fastest time. You can even request the most use of freeways or the least use of freeways. Should you miss your turn along the way or make a wrong turn, "Automatic re-route" gets you quickly back on track. You can also create a multi-point route allowing you to route stops along the way. Great for deliveries or sales calls.

The Magellan Road Mate 1210 and 1220 are compatible with "Traffic Link", however you will have to purchase the receiver and subscription separately as they are not included in the purchase price. Click HERE to see if your area is serviced by Magellan Traffic Link. A nice feature that is included is that the color screen automatically adjusts the color and contrast for easy night viewing. The Magellan Road Mate comes with a rechargeable battery allowing use when the external power is turned off.

As these units are so new to the market, we have yet to receive any reviews on them. As we receive reviews, we will make them available to you.
