Magellan GPS Units the Maestro 4370 Details including Owner Ratings & Reviews

The newest in the line of Magellan GPS units is the Magellan Maestro 4370. This sleek portable navigation device offers Magellan's new "one touch" feature. This allows the user to select pre-entered destinations with just a touch of the screen. This navigation aid in the Magellan GPS units' Maestro 4370 is advertised as quick access to your favorite locations. You are probably thinking the same thing I am. If they are your favorite locations, then you've been there. How many times do you need instructions to return? Maybe I'm wrong. It should be noted that the one touch feature is for addresses only. Its' wide screen (4.3") has great resolution (400 x 800 pixels). This enhanced resolution makes reading the screen a pleasure. The display keyboard is QWERTY format, making entry much easier for those used to a computer keyboard. A SD data card slot is also included, however the SD card is not included. The Magellan GPS units' Maestro 4370 includes "text to speech" called "SayWhere" by Magellan, a very desirable feature in PNDs. The unit will tell when and what direction to turn and in addition it will tell you the name of the street on which you should turn. The Magellan GPS units' 4370 comes with preloaded maps of North America and Puerto Rico. You can view the maps in 2D or 3D and it also provides 3D renderings of some of the buildings along the way. This is helpful to get your bearings in unfamiliar areas. You can select a route by "one touch", points of interest or just entering the address. You can also choose the type of roads to use, thus avoiding tolls, highways etc. The Magellan GPS units' 4370 will even calculate the route by fastest time, simplest route, shortest distance or the most fuel efficient. A three month trial subscription to Navteq traffic is included with the unit. The traffic aid displays the current conditions on the map, listing any incidents along your route. After the 3 month trial period you will have to subscribe to the service if you wish the service to continue. Check out the coverage map before you purchase to make sure service will be provided in the area you plan to travel. Navteq coverage map If you should run into a traffic back up or slow traffic, the Magellan GPS units' 4370, through its' "SmartDetour" will provide an alternate route if you so desire. Routing options are provided for bikes, emergency vehicles, cars, mass transportation (buses), taxis, and also pedestrians. Other routing aids include automatic route recalculation and demo mode which will give you a running simulation of your route before you leave. Multi-destination routing is also included. Multi-destination allows you to plan a route with multiple stops along the way. Great for making sales calls or deliveries. Along with 6 million points of interest which include restaurants, lodging, gas stations, etc. it also comes with AAA TourBook. This feature gives extensive information on restaurants, hotels, and more. It will list things such as hours of operation, amenities, attraction admission cost and more. If you are a member of AAA you will be able to obtain additional member only information from the AAA TourBook. Bluetooth is also included with the unit, allowing "hands free" calling with a compatible cell phone. Check compatible handsets to see if your phone is included. You can download MP3 music on the SD card and the Magellan GPS units Maestro 4370's MP3 player will play it for you. Besides MP3, the player also supports WMA, MPEG2, AAC and MPEG4 formats. The on board FM transmitter can even transmit the unit's sound to your FM car radio for improved sound quality. If you plan on using your Maestro 4370 in Europe please be aware that the use of certain FM transmitters is illegal in some European countries. Check before you use the transmitter feature of your 4370.

Maestro 4370 By GatoradeNE1, December 22, 2008
Pros: Lane change is useful, 3d building are cool, one-touch is great, time to destination is a life saver, but the far-and-away best features are the POI's. I don't want to push buttons, I'm driving, I just want it to show me what's nearby. The Exit POI's are even cooler. Again, without pushing a button, I can see if the next exit has gas, food, lodging and/or car repair/towing services. I can't tell how many times I printed out google instructions, called someone to look something up for me or was hungry and no idea where to go. What took me so long to get a GPS?! I love this thing! Cons: Needs to be reset far too frequently...stupid Windows OS. It's easy to reset and takes only seconds, but this shouldn't happen in a $400 device. As compared to the satellite images I'm used to using in Google, these maps look cartoonish and old (Google needs to make a GPS). Suction cup/install kit that comes with it looks like a small crane on your dash/windshield...hideous. And like my Sun Pass, it doesn't keep its suction forever. When driving in a parking lot, it thinks you're on the main road making it jump around like a crazed fool recalculating over and over again...very annoying. The map is rather accurate, but I've seen a few small mistakes...destination is actually on the other side of the road, you don't need to go all the way to the light and make a u-turn, destination is no longer there/map is now out of date, etc. The street names are mostly pronounced accurately, but sometimes they get butchered...more amusing than an issue. What's great about it: Looks nice; high-resolution graphics; tries to do a lotWhat's not so great: Slow; crashes; loses reception all the time; outdated POI By GlennGAH, 02/11/2009
This is the 3rd Magellan GPS that I've owned. The company has listened to the market and their customers and it shows with the Maestro 4370. The entire system has been overhauled. Everything from the GUI to the routing engine has been enhanced. I have used this system in several states throughout the Southeast and it has worked flawlessly. Where I used to receive "re-route" notices, innacurate directions, etc., I have not had any since I received the system over a month ago. The unit comes with speed limit warnings, times to destination based on routing method, etc. The new maps are clean, easy to read, and not cluttered. The screen resolution is amazing, however, the updated "text to speech" is so accurate, one does not need to even look at the screen. There is also a "lane assist" feature that helps on freeways The first thing anyone who purchases a GPS needs to do is update the firmware if one is offered on the company's website. I have read previous reviews of this unit and all were completed prior to the end user updating the software. By Thestregis, 01/09/2009
