Lots of Maps with Magellan GPS unit the Maestro 3220 plus Ratings and Reviews

If you like to travel, the Magellan GPS unit the Magellan Maestro 3220 could be just the best portable GPS system for you. It comes preloaded with maps of all 50 States, plus maps of Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico. The Magellan GPS unit the Maestro 3220 has a bright, daylight viewable, 3.5" screen and its' slim design makes it easy to carry in your pocket or purse. The preloaded maps are viewable in 2D or 3D and with "TrueView" included with the Maestro 3220, you can view a split screen which will give you a detailed picture of the approaching turn. In addition to the maps preloaded with the unit, you can buy Magellan GPS maps and even download additional maps from Magellan's web site. Creating a route with the Magellan GPS unit the Maestro 3220 is as easy as touch and go. You can scan the 6 million Points of Interest included with the unit and touch the icon of your desired destination and the Magellan GPS unit will create the route for you. Using the touch screen, you can enter the address of the desired destination and create a route that way. "QuickSpell" can anticipate the address you are entering and finish the entry for you. It can even correct your spelling (a feature I could really use). You can even customize the way Magellan creates the route. You may specify whether or not you want to avoid freeways if possible, avoid tolls, create the fastest route, shortest distance, most economical and more. Other routing aids include "SmartDetour" and "Auto reroute". "SmartDetour" can be customized to kick in when you are stuck in slow traffic and create a detour around that slow traffic problem. If you get distracted and miss your turn or if you make a wrong turn, "Auto reroute" will get you back on course. An address book is preloaded in the Magellan GPS unit the Maestro 3220 allowing you to enter your own Points of Interest in addition to the preloaded 6 million Points of Interest. A SD slot is also included, however you must purchase the SD card separately as it is not included with the unit. With a SD card you could back up your address book data.

Magellan Customer service is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. They offer a free 30 day map update since all of their products ship with out of date maps. This would be a good thing except it is in the fine print of their products and their customer support email address that their website list is the wrong address. I had to get through to their customer service by posting a bad review on their website. By the time they responded my unit was beyond the 30 day limit and they refused to give me the update. This is a bad business practice. Garmin has a 60 day guarantee which is posted directly on their website in plain view. Radio Shack:

I purchased this disaster on an expedited delivery to use on a 6 week road tour of Mexico by auto. The machine came preloaded with the Mexico database. We had a preview of what was to come when we were directed to a destination that was off by 10 miles when we were in the US. The performance of the machine only got worse when we started driving in Mexico. Among the disconcerting directions we received were to make a left turn in the middle of a three mile long bridge over the Gulf of Mexico, directed to make turns down one way streets the wrong way, directed to divert to free Meixican roads rather than the new toll roads we were on, directed to make U turns that were in error, cross a river where there was no bridge, told we needed to allow over 7 hours to make a 180 mile leg and so on. Additonally, the machine refused to boot up for several hours, displayed no points of interest such as hotels in major cities such as Merida, Villahermosa, Veracruz and Tampico, and five weeks of listening to a deplorable attempt to speak Spanish names. The overall result was that this machine put my wife and I at a severe safety risk by spewing out erroneous driving directions. Don't buy this disaster. Dell:

Pros: Includes Mexico addresses Cons: Not updated, on a trip not able to look for a point of interest (gas station, restaurant, etc.)

Pros: Well built, a lot of features for the price. Connects quick and while driving it updates fast and is very accurate. Cons: Not all roads are on the system and not all major Points of Interest are already on unit.
