I really like magellan GPS units - bought a tom tom but wanted to go back to magellan but after buying this one found out there are no updates for this unit and it is outdated by a couple years and when I travel a lot i need the latest updates on roads. suggest buying a model with updated files.

We have had this product 2 years and it provides an impressive number of features for the price. We travel a lot between N. Calif. and Phoenix and "Ingrid" (that's what we call the unit's female voice) has proved invaluable.

Recently, we paid Magellan $80 to upgrade the maps to the 2009 version. On a recent trip to Phoenix, the updated maps were full of errors and Ingrid got completely befuddled in the Southeast portion of Maricopa County. Also, we have a AAA enabled version of this unit, and it was unable to find the nearest AAA office with the new map update.

We wrote Megellan and their response was that the maps were provided by a third party vendor (and were done in 2007 for the 2009 update!!);So Sorry. So be aware that the maps may not be as up to date as expected and may have some flat out errors. Oh, and the hardware performance seems to have deteriorated with the map update as well. It takes longer to find the satellites and seems to have more trouble finding the route at times, even if the map is correct.

I bought this product in March of 2008 and just recently called customer service for the second time since I purchased the product and had no problem with understanding the customer service rep or getting a reasonable response for my reasoning behind calling. I am very pleased with my product purchase and the Magellan company.

I have had my Magellan for about 2 years and really liked it. I especially liked the specific clues it gives you when you are to make a turn. HOWEVER, I go about 3 times a year to the Charlotte NC area, which is rapidly developing and where many new roads are being built and others closed or moved. The maps had LOTS of errors for that area.I eagerly looked forward to updated maps. In the fall I saw a map update dated Spring 2008 and bought it, even though it cost over $70. I went to Charlotte for Thanksgiving and found the maps were WAY out of date still. Roads that were accurate on a AAA map dated 2007 were not correct on the Magellan. When I contacted Magellan and told them their map update did me no good and I wanted a refund, they said they do not give refunds on maps. Period. This product is no good if its maps are not reasonably current, and clearly the maps are not. They should refund a customer's money.

PS The maps also cannot find an ENTIRE zip code in Pennsylvania,Hidden Valley, 15502. If you go to Hidden Valley the maps show all the roads properly, but if you try to find Lake Road in 15502, it sends you to Lake Road in 15501, 16 miles away!
