The Magellan 3140 GPS an upgrade from the 3100

Magellan Maestro 3140

The Magellan 3140 is a definite upgrade from the 3100 GPS. A Portable auto GPS system, the Magellan Maestro 3140 review, will give you actual owner experiences, ratings and description. The Magellan Maestro 3140 adds some very useful features not found in earlier units. Text to Speech is now standard with the Maestro 3140 enabling the unit to announce the street name on which to turn, in addition to the direction and when to turn. Preloaded maps of North America and Puerto Rico will get you to your destination and may be viewed in 2D and 3D.

Creating a route has been greatly improved. You may select one of the interactive Points of Interest icons and a route will be created to its' location. You can enter the address of your desired destination and QuickSpell™ will anticipate your entry and finish it for you and even correct your spelling. name"Or you can select a previous destination. Multi-destination allows you to select up to 20 destinations placing them in the order that best meets your needs. A great feature for deliveries or sales calls.

With the Magellan 3140 you can also customize your route by selecting fastest time, shortest distance, least or most use of freeways or avoid toll roads. You can also select streets and freeways to avoid so you can get there your way. Should you miss a turn or make a wrong turn, Auto re-route will get you back on track. When you are on your way, should you find yourself stuck in traffic, SmartDetour™ will automatically prompt you to route around the problem.

The Magellan 3140 is compatible with the Magellan TrafficKit™ to get live traffic incident reports to help you avoid traffic tie-ups. You will have to pay activation and subscription fees as they are not included in the purchase price. You may wish to check the service. Click Traffic Alert Service Area to see if your area is served by the service. The 3140 also is equipped with Bluetooth technology allowing you to make hands-free calls on your bluetooth equipped cell phone. Check the Compatible Phones list to see if your phone will be compatible with the system.

The sunlight viewable color, 3.5" screen is equipped with "Auto night view" which automatically adjusts the color and contrast for night driving. Equipped with a rechargeable battery, the stated battery life is 3 hours, but I wouldn't count on it. My experience has been more like 1.5 to 2 hours.

The Magellan 3140 comes with 4.5 million Points of Interest preloaded. With this interactive database you can easily find gas stations, restaurants, ATMs, and more. And with smart location you can search by name, category and region. There's even a Coffee category so you can quickly find caffeine whenever you need it. An address book is also included allowing you to add Points of Interest of your own. "Instant locate" or "TowTruck" will show your current location so you can quickly provide roadside assistance or emergency services directions to your location. In addition to the millions of POIs, it comes complete with the preloaded AAA TourBook® giving details on hotels, restaurants and more. Magellan 3140 Owner Reviews

Amazon

By Melissa Forrest, March 27, 2009

If you want a GPS that gets you from point A to point B then this does that. But if you want a GPS that gets you from point A to point B without any issues then I would look elsewhere. It sometimes has issues where it seems to not know where it is. A few times when leaving our house it was convinced we were in a completely different state and it didn't update to our actual location until half an hour later. And it doesn't always give the best directions. A few times we have asked it directions to a place we know very well and asked for quickest route and it gave us the longest and most complex route possible. I just really expected more from it. Most times it will get you to your destination, but I find myself printing online directions as a backup, just in case. I wish we had purchased a different GPS.

Worked ok, but maps were not as good or as accurate as my Handheld Garmin GPS. No longer own it.

The Maestro 3140 seems much better than old Magellan RoadMate. It generally loads quickly and most directions seem fairly accurate. The Points of Interest is not real complete or accurate but can often be helpful for many things. My unit sometimes gets right and left confused. The map is usually correct but spoken directions are somethings the opposite but I usually look at map to get better feel for location and degree of turn.
