At the high end of the price scale, the World Tracker PLD GPS personal location device offers a whole lot of features, but they come at a price. With a battery life of 2 weeks (takes 12 hours to recharge) the PLD is capable of long distance tracking and with quad band support (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) the device can operate from any location in the world.

Larger than some other trackers (3.95" x 2.32" x 1"), given it's long battery life, it's not bad. With assisted GPS (A-GPS) the World Tracker PLD will work inside buildings and parking garages. It even comes equipped with one-way listening capabilities so you can hear what is going on around the device. You can also use the device to make emergency pre-programmed calls. Location can be viewed in Google Earth or Microsoft's Virtual Earth and reports may be downloaded in .csv format to be displayed on Microsoft Excel. The reports provide the user with drive time, idle time, location data (starting and ending addresses, mileage and speed.) This could be very useful for the busy salesperson who does their expense reports at the end of the week or for delivery truck owners.

This GPS personal location device also supports "Geofencing". Unlike most trackers, you can create rectangular, irregular or circular areas and it will support multiple geofences. You can even set up an area outside of the current location and be notified when the unit enters that area. For instance, you could set up an area at home and if you are not there you would be notified when you child got home. Equipped with a motion sensor, it can automatically detect whether you are walking or in a car.

The device can be completely re-configured over the internet by connecting it to a PC via the USB cable. In addition, power consumption may be adjusted to suit your needs. The initial setup of the PLD is not exactly intuitive and you may need some assistance. You should also note that unlike many other GPS personal location device this unit is not waterproof.
