A GPS for trucking and RVs has special requirements
GPS for trucking makes a lot of sense. A truckers GPS has special requirements. The truckers GPS market has been overlooked until recently. Now we are seeing some of the major GPS players entering the truckers GPS market. One of the special requirements that a truck GPS needs is the ability to define their load specifications. For instance, they need to specify the load weight, height, length, width and hazmat number. They also need to be kept abreast of steep grades, sharp curves and other possible hazards along their route. They also have to be aware of lateral wind warnings and advance notice of narrowing roads. These things are not available in traditional automobile GPS units. Although there have been some "trucker friendly" trucking GPS units available they really didn't fill the needs of the typical over-the-road trucker. Truckers aren't the only ones in need of these specialized units. A GPS for RV owners also needs to provide the same information. The table below provides a comparison of the most popular truckers GPS units. It compares the features found in each listed unit.
