A GPS for RV and Truck Drivers

The new GY500X GPS for RV and truckers will deliver GPS navigation for truck drivers as well as RVer's with a portable navigation solution that many CDL drivers are looking for. The unit software, "ProNav" featuring NAVTEQ Transport, was designed specifically for the trucking industry. It provides dynamic routing and navigation capabilities, using driver-set parameters. The driver can enter the vehicle dimensions, weight, number of axles and legal restrictions (no trucks, Hazmat restriction level). In addition, cross winds, steep inclines, etc. may also be entered. The units are completely portable and have the ability to use an external antenna allowing many mounting options. One feature of this GPS for RV and truck drivers is its' ability to instantly recalculate your route. If you miss a turn or make a wrong turn, the unit will instantly give you a new route. Unlike other systems that must recalculate the routing after the fact. The GY500X constantly is calculating new routes within a one mile radius. According to the manufacturer “Today’s GPS systems realize when you miss a turn, but then make you wait while a progress bar shows ’rerouting’ or ’recalculating,’” said Rosenstock. “In the meantime, you could miss your next turn and not even know it. Our system doesn’t do recalculations. When you miss a turn, it’s already prepared with an alternate route, without missing a beat – or an exit.” The unit comes with a 4.3" color touch screen and a 25 ft. external antenna for ease of mounting location. Navteq maps of the United States and Canada are pre-loaded. It also has Bluetooth technology for "hands-free" calling with your Bluetooth compatible cell phone and a FM transmitter allowing the user to hear the GPS over the truck's FM radio. Includes more than 17,000 POI's including truck stops, diesel locations, weigh stations, repair facilities & other truck-specific information. This unit is to be released sometime in 2009. No word yet just when it will be on the market. Information on this unit is sketchy at best. We will update the information when it becomes available and will notify all those interested via our blog.
