GPS for Android phones is one of the most desirable apps out there.

Being able to use your Android phone as a GPS while traveling is an extremely useful and handy feature of the Android OS. If you are one of those that doesn't have Google Navigation on their phone or are just looking for an alternative, there are an overwhelming number of GPS software programs for Android phones and many of these Android Apps are very good. The problem lies in the fact that there are so many that deciding which one in the one most suited to your needs becomes a daunting task.

We have selected just of few of the most popular GPS apps and listed them so you can compare the more popular features of each. CHART DEFINITIONS:

  • $: GPS Softwaresuggested retail price. This is the price that it is listed for.
  • Data Plan: This column indicates whether or not the maps are loaded to your phone allowing you to use the GPS without needing a data connection.
  • Speak Steet Names: This used to be called "text to speech". With this feature the system will tell you to "in .5 miles turn left on Jones street". Without this feature the system would tell you to "in .5 miles turn left". This is a very desirable feature. With it you do not have to look at the map to confirm that you are on the correct street.
  • Multi Task: Indicates if you can multi task while in navigation mode. Such as make and receive calls.
  • Traffic: Indicates if traffic updates are furnished with the program. Y=yes and OP= Optional and seperate purchase is required.
  • Lane Assist: Indicates if the program has lane assist where it will direct you to the correct lane for an upcoming turn.
  • Maps 2D and 3D: Indicates if maps can be viewed in 2D or 3D.
