Golf GPS units Golf Guru Gray
and Golf Guru Color Details

Golf Guru has two golf GPS units. Both golf Guru units have basically the same features other than color vs gray scale and storage capacity. Read the golf GPS reviews on the Golf Guru. The GPS Golf Guru 4 Precise GPS/PDA Golf Rangefinder with Multi-application capabilities Gray has a gray scale screen and stores up to 40 courses. The Golf Guru Color has a color screen and stores up to 200 courses. Both units have high sensitivity receivers that are WASS enabled for extreme accuracy.

These Golf Guru units provide unlimited course downloads from a database of over 18,600 courses at no additional fee. You can also map your own courses with up to 30 targets per hole or add or modify targets on the downloaded courses.

The "Smart Green" feature allows the user to move the pin to the current location on the green and shows the current distance to the front, center and back of the green from any angle of approach. Distances to other targets on the course are continually updated. You can also track your shot distance.

Golf Guru currently tracks FIR (fairways in regulation), GIR (greens in regulation), number of putts, and putts per GIR. It will also track club selection and lie when used in conjunction with the mark feature. They do have advanced features, such as USGA handicapping, that will have a small annual fee. Check their membership plans for more information. With a membership to UShandicap.com you can analyze your game and establish a USGA handicap.

A fully charged battery lasts approximately 14 hours in typical usage conditions. Batteries can be recharged several hundred times. The GPS Golf Guru 4 Precise GPS/PDA Golf Rangefinder units do not accommodate standard AA batteries. A solar charged battery is available that will run the Guru even if your batteries die.

GPS Golf Guru

By William Cole, March 16, 2009

I like everything about the Golf Guru except screen brightness. Difficult viewing indoors when changing settings, loading courses, etc. Aside from that, it's worked on every course I've selected. Don't think I'll ever use all the features available.

Golf GPS units - Guru

I've had my Guru for almost 2 months now and it's completely met my needs. This is the B&W (non-color) version, but it's worth the cost savings and views clearly in all but very dim lighting. The yardage readings are very accurate and quick to update. Although it only allows 20 downloaded courses and 20 manually mapped courses, you can save downloaded courses as mapped courses, essentially enabling 40 downloaded courses. This GPS is a great value with no subcription costs either!. It even has responsive customer support which corrected a downloaded course's 'par value' on a particular hole within a few days.

I've had my golf guru for about a month now and have played 4 rounds of golf with it. The yardages it gives are spot on and it's very easy to use. It locks on to satellites very quickly and the stats it lets you track are very handy.

The customer service is also very good. I requested 2 additional courses to be mapped and received confirmation that they were available for downloading within 4 days.

The only 2 things I would improve are: ability to hold more courses (the colour version can hold 200, this one only holds 20), and the fact that knowing the yardage to the flag and hitting it that yardage are 2 very different things. I guess no gps can help with that.

Guru Range Finder

By Rain man "Seattle Native", February 24, 2009

The golf Guru has been working quite well. The phone support has been excellent. I felt getting it up and runing was a little complicated but phone support was there to talk me throught the process. Occationally during the round, like two or three times, it gives me bogus distances when I compare it to yardage markers. One other thing it sometime fails to do is put the golf course I am at to the top of my golf course list screen like they say it will do. All in all it is a nice little unit.

I have had the unit for several weeks now and all I can say is it's great. Very easy to read in direct sunlight. Starts up and aquires very fast. Very accurate compared to others I have used in the past. Very easy to use. I use to keep score and stats which is a breeze. I would highly recommend this unit. Big advantage is the course downloads is free. I ordered on a Monday, Wednesday I noticed on their site one of the 27 hole courses I play was not available for download. Contacted tech support and requested the 27 holes to be mapped. Friday afternoon received my unit and Friday night received an email from Guru support letting me know the course is available for download. Now that is great customer service. Wonderful unit and the color is crisp.
