As you advance on the course, the hazards behind you are removed from the screen and those between you and the green are displayed, providing you with hands free operation. I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he absolutely loves it! He used it on one of the courses at our Country Club and was very impressed with it. The nice thing about this is that you can store a number of courses in it but you can also change them out when needed. My husband travels all over the world and plays golf at many different courses. This feature allows him to download new courses but he can also re-enter his favorites when he no longer needs a particular course. I would highly recommend this product. It does what is advertised. The most confusing part of using the product is finding the distance of your last shot. Battery power is limited to about 2 rounds without a charge. By That SOB (Smilin' Ol' Bill) "Senior Golfer", July 2, 2008
Have used the Sky Caddie for several weeks and find it really a helpful gadget. If you stay in the fairway, and distace markers are visble, it still helps by avoiding the pacing and estimating normally done. And if you're off the fairway, as we often are, it's invaluable. A great item! The Golf Warehouse - golf gps devices:

More accurate in distance readings than other GPSs. I played with other players with brand GPS and there readings were different from Skycaddie's, and...(More) Skycaddie's was more accurate by 3-10 yards than the others. By Ken, Jan. 29, 2009

I have tested it against many of the professional measurements that are available on...(More) the golf courses I play and the results are amazingly accurate. I have full confidence in this equipment and I believe it has helped me speed up my play and increased my accuracy. Golfsmith:

I would just be repeating other happy users reviewsof the skycaddy 2.5, so I've decided to write about the one and only drawback that I have with skycaddy, and I've sent emails to their customer service on this topic. Skycaddy maps the course by professionally walking it with trained technicians. They must get permission to map a golf course. If they don't, then skycaddy owners have to map it themselves and be happy with just knowing the distance to the front, center and back of the green. We cannot map the distance to clear a pond or a sandtrap etc. I have asked Skycaddy to use the same technology as other gps companies use, that is, an aerial mapping of the course. Granted, it may not be as bang on as far as yardages are concerned but the difference would be minimal and I'm sure it would make many skycaddy customers very happy. I even suggested that skycaddy use a different icon to let their customers know that such a course was not mapped by walking the course. Skycaddy thanked me for my input and they were going to present my idea to the marketing dept. That was 6 weeks ago. I'm still waiting...This is the only true "con" that I have with Skycaddy..If skycaddy were to add this new feature, I think their sales would increase, and I would then highly recommend Skycaddy to friends and strangers and even enemies !!! I chose the SG 2.5 over other GPS devices because of its size. I can easily slip it in my left hip pocket and it isn't heavy enough to bother me while playing. It does come with a belt clip, but I found it to be a little bit aggravating and didn't want to fool with it. Some people will complain that it doesn't take AA batteries, but I actually prefer the rechargeable batter it comes with. Others may complain that it only holds 10 courses. I'm constantly on the computer & such, so it's not a pain at all for me to plug it in to charge it or change courses. I doubt the average golfer really needs more than 10 courses very often anyway. I have not had any issues reading the display outdoors. Cloudy.. sunny.. I haven't had any problems. A GPS isn't going to miraculously add three birdies to your scorecard. It isn't going to miraculously make you hit the ball within 5 ft of the pin. However, it will help you learn your yardages and be more consistent, if you can consistenly hit the ball. The only thing I'm not crazy about is having to sign up for a subscription with SkyCaddie. I believe if you're purchasing the unit you should at least get 1 year free. Many people have complained about SkyCaddie's customer service.. but I think if you're halfway smart enough to figure out how to use the thing, and take care of it, you won't have a need for customer service. Don't buy this expecting to install it on a Linux box if it doesn't say it's compatible! Owner Ratings - Golf GPS devices - SkyCaddie SG2.5
