It's hard to believe that the Garmin nuvi 785T has so many features packed into such a slim, sleek design. Its' wide (4.3") screen provides a bright, anti-glare, sunlight viewable display. Preloaded with maps of North America, the Garmin nuvi 785T has a large number of useful navigational aids that makes getting to your destination a snap. Probably the most useful "add on" you will find on a GPS device is "text to speech". This handy navigational aid not only tells you when and what direction to turn, but also tells you the name of the street on which you should turn. This feature allows you to keep your eyes on the road without having to glance at the GPS device to determine if you are on the correct street. Route planning could not be easier. The Garmin nuvi 785T will store up to ten preplanned routes. With the Garmin nuvi 785T you can plan multiple destination routes. The Garmin Nuvi GPS will then sort the destinations and create the most efficient route. This could be a real plus if you have a delivery business. You can also choose to use "eco-routing" which will give you the most fuel efficient route to your destination. "Route setup" allows you to select how you want your route created such as fastest time, shortest distance, off road, etc. With "Route avoidance" you can elect to avoid such things as tolls or highways, just to name a few. Confused about where you are or need emergency information on your location? Just use "Where am I". This aid will instantly give your latitude and longitude, the nearest address and intersection and the closest police and gas station. It may be my age, but I can go into a grocery store and 15 minutes later come out and not remember where I parked the car. With "Garmin locate" the Garmin nuvi 785T will remember its' location when removed from the car and allows you to locate your car in large parking lots such as shopping centers or amusement parks. Another great feature, especially in unfamiliar areas, is "Lane Assist" which alerts you to get in the proper lane in anticipation of the approaching turn. It even shows pictures of the road signs and intersection along with an arrow indicating the turn. Just in case you missed seeing the speed limit sign, this Garmin Nuvi GPS displays the current speed limit for the area. This little feature could pay for the price of the unit if it saves you a ticket. Garmin has included the MSN Direct receiver along with a 3 month trial subscription to MSN Direct. MSN Direct provides traffic alerts, real-time local weather, movie times, stock information, gas prices, news and local events. Even plan trips from the convenience of your computer, via Windows Live Local, and wirelessly send locations to the Garmin nüvi 785T. The Garmin nuvi 785T comes with a world clock and time zone converter, calculator, currency and unit converter, a MP3 player, Audio book, jpeg picture viewer and over 6 million points of interest. You can even add your own points of interest. In addition, you can choose the keyboard layout for your Garmin Nuvi GPS by selecting either QWERTY or ABC. A SD card slot is provided (SD card is not included). With a SD card you can download your favorite books, music, pictures, additional maps and more. From what I am able to tell, it is about 99% accurate but those flaws will not let you miss your destination. Some of the directions around town do not make any sense but being that I know differently I did not take that advice. However, a stranger would not know the difference as gas will be wasted. For the most part, I am very satisfied with this unit. By Calvinbob "Kevin", December 29, 2008 One of the best GPS systems out there, but not perfect I have had this unit for awhile - when I first got it I installed the updates so I never saw how it worked before. but I have been very pleased with the performance. when I find a POI it only takes about 2-5 seconds max for the unit to calculate the best route, which isn't lightning fast, but fast enough. I really like the MSN direct feature. although you need to keep the unit running for a couple HOURS to get all the information the first time out of the box. I really haven't had any problems or major complains about the unit. there are a lot of feature well thought out that they unit does buy itself that I never saw in other GPS units By U. Cason, January 2, 2009 I like it. Did an update when I got it and it works fine. Graphics are spectacular. Emailed Garmin for replacement battery information. Just send the unit in and Garmin will replace the batteries once it no longer holds a charge. I still give it 3 stars because even though I think this is a good unit, it can still use some improvements in certain areas. WalMart: By JudyJ10018, 01/06/2009 Can't get lost with this one Used only 10 days, and have put it to the test. Put in addresses and points of interest in local areas as well as other states and the Garmin has brought those sites up easily. Like the different ways of seeing the area as either regular map or as terrain the mph is shown for the area you are in as well as the speed you are driving. There is a lot more to it but have not used to is full potentail yet. I love that you can download from mapquest or google maps right to this device. Never get lost again.
