The Garmin nuvi 205W and Garmin nuvi 205 ratings and reviews
The Garmin nuvi 205W and the Garmin nuvi 205 are entry level GPS navigation units. Designed to replace the Garmin Nuvi 200W and the Nuvi 200 these upgraded models include many new features. Again, the only differences between the Garmin nüvi 205W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator and the Nuvi 205 are the screen size, resolution and weight. Although these units do not have "text to speech" they have many of the same desirable attributes of the Garmin nuvi 255 model. One of the most popular features is the ability to choose keyboard layout. You may choose either QWERT or ABC. Another useful feature is "Where am I" which gives you your present location, nearest address and intersection and closest police station and fuel station. The Garmin nuvi 205W and Nuvi 205 come with over 6 million points of interest with the ability to add your own points of interest such as speed cameras, intersections, special restaurants and more. The Garmin nuvi 205W and Nuvi 205 come with regional maps. This means you get the lower 48 states plus Hawaii and Puerto Rico. A really nice addition is the upcoming turn indicator located in the upper left hand corner of the screen which visually represents the direction of the next turn. The units also come with a micro SD slot allowing you to upload pictures and the Garmin Travel Guide. The micro SD card is not included with the units. Both theGarmin nüvi 205W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator and Nuvi 205 are compatible with Garmin's FM TMC traffic alerts and MSN Direct. Although coverage of both services is nationwide it is still spotty and you should check coverage before you purchase the necessary receiver. To check coverage for your area click the following links: Total Traffic Network coverage and MSN Direct coverage map. The Garmin nuvi 205W GPS and Garmin nuvi 205w GPS have built in "hot fix" which remembers its location when you shut the unit down, allowing a faster boot time when you turn the unit back on. Some of the items not included in either the Garmin nuvi 205W or the Garmin nuvi 205 were the ability to exclude specific roads, no text to speech and the windshield mount is not powered which means to take the unit with you, you must remove it from the mount and then unplug it. User reviews Amazon: By Joe Zamora Jr. (REAL NAME) My family and I visited New Orleans for the first time. We had just bought the GPS and are ecstatic. Don't know how we could ever have vacationed without it. We have bought 3 more for our extended family. By Gregory "Gregory" (Athens Greece) Garmin nuvi 205 3.5 " GPSWhat a great tool and great value! This is a great basic system that met all of our needs. If all you are looking for is a GPS to keep your eyes on the road and out of a map while keeping the cost low...this is your baby. By M. Stacy (Illinois) (REAL NAME) We got this as a "family" X-mas present and already it has come in handy...gone are the days of using mapquest and printing directions. We went with this version of the Garmin because we wanted to the point information and did not need blue tooth or mp3. Love the voice directions and quick recalculation when you miss a turn. Boston.com: Pros: The Garmin name without the price tag. Obtains a GPS signal quickly and has hyper-accurate maps and tons of points of interest. Cons: Does not speak the street names. That's really become an essential selling point, and the lack of text-to-speech really hurts it.
