Amazon

By TomAmaz "TomAmaz", June 19, 2010

I bought a Nuvi 1370 for travel in Europe, seemed great. When it works, it does very well and has nice features such as traffic camera alerts and traffic advisor. But there are problems with this model 1370. I have had to replace the Nuvi 1370 twice, both times because the display would go dark when connected to a power source, such as when driving. This happened after a few months of owning the units. Also I also do not like the ads that pop up. Very annoying, on a unit that I paid for. Garmin gets paid by Red Lobster and other companies to pop up ads/coupons while you are driving. I hate that. The Garmin web site is horrible. Went there first to try to fix the display problem with SW update and was unable to download SW updates after four hours of trying. I have had several Garmin products purchased over the years and used to be a Garmin fan, but they have lost their focus and seem to rushing to get something to the market, before the products/SW work.

Seems to work well and as described. It's not very convenient to use to just play around with the maps. Note that the one free update you get with registration is for *either* the US or Europe maps, but not both. My local maps (Puerto Rico) have some issues, but that's not a surprise. Maybe the update will improve things.

By B. Cardanha, May 6, 2010

I had read the reviews, saying that there were firmware issues, so I made sure that I updated to the latest before leaving for my trip. My first stop was in the US, and other than taking a long time to get the signal when I first turned it on, it worked well.

Then I got to Italy, and it would not get a signal at all. It searched over and over for hours, no luck. Finally, I did a full reset to factory defaults, and finally it got a signal and got us where we needed to go (but I lost all of my locations for my trip that I had programmed in from home).

I still had issues mentioned by other folks with the unit powering off randomly - for me, it was if I pressed zoom-out too many times too quickly, it would turn off. I was also disappointed by the slow response of the touch screen.

It seems like Garmin still has some issues to work out so this unit got returned.

By P. Turecamo, March 9, 2010

I just purchased the 1370T and was surprised to find out that both the Europe and North America maps were out of date (2009) AND Garmin only gives you one free update. So, add $69.99 to the cost of the unit if you want updated maps. This is a very deceptive trade practice. Also, the hands-free operation is poor. On the plus side, it is very easy to use and the points of interest is a nice feature.

Top line that goes across screen is nice and large BUT when you sroll down for total route each box is nice & large BUT the print in box is relatively very small...the print could easily be doubled in size for better readability...the space is there...why waste it...also to lower volume you have to screw around with menu, which is a nuisance while driving...also in other models power cord goes into windshield mount...so it can always stay connected...but now you have to plug into GPS each time you use it.
