Garmin 270 portable GPS ratings and reviews

Garmin 270

The Garmin 270 is a fairly basic version of the Garmin 200 series. It has a 3.5" color touch screen and comes with the standard Garmin portable GPS features. Items included with the Garmin 270 are a world clock with time zone converter, a unit converter, and a SD card slot. The SD card is not included.

The most notable feature of the Nuvi 270 is the maps. The unit comes with preloaded maps of North America and Europe. If you are a frequent overseas traveler, this could be just the right GPS for you. The Nuvi 270 also comes with millions of Points of Interest and allows you to add some of your own.

With a SD card you can download, for a fee, the Garmin Travel Guides and Saver Guides as the Nuvi 270 is compatible with both.

Probably the most popular feature not included is "text to speech". The Garmin 270 also does not support traffic alerts and does not have Bluetooth for hands free calling. The lack of these items helps keep the price low and it's slim design and transatlantic maps make Garmin portable GPS a good take along travel GPS. It should be noted that Garmin discontinued this unit in 2009.

"Great for NA, decent for Europe"

By old_type

I would get it if u need the euro maps.

Been using around Toronto, Canada, has been spot on, no complaints. Took it to Europe for a Trip, worked great in Amsterdam, Prague, Barcelona and Paris. Its small and battery life is great.

The start up time is slow. For Europe it would take 2 to 15 mins to get a satellite signal. Really depends where you are. It did not work well in London. And sometimes it would be off by one street so read the signs yourself.

priceless

My family and I recently went to London/Europe. The unit took awhile to find the satellite signal but once it did it worked great. With the way the roads are set up overseas, using this gps is the way to navigate. I would highly recommend this purchase.

What street?

What street?

I found this product to be mostly good. Some of the things I didn't expect were the compass and the MPH readout. I did however expect it to say the street names, which it doesn't. If I had it to do over again I would look for a unit that said what street.

Simply Amazing

Simply Amazing

This device is wonderful. It never fails to get me where I need to go. Sometimes it gets confused about where I am but that's usually only in the beginning. Make sure you give it enough time to acquire satellites if at all possible.

Size, battery, ease of use

Mapping is not correct in some of the countrys in Europe. Quickest routing is not always taking you via the obvious larger roads, so a more stressful experience. I rate Tom Tom better in that respect
