The Bushnell GPS Yardage Pro
Simple to use

Bushnell Yardage Pro

The Bushnell GPS Yardage Pro is probably one of the simplest golf GPS units to use on the market.

This golf rangefinder has a limited number of features, you get the vital information needed. It is available with a color screen Bushnell Yardage Pro XGC Color Golf GPS or a gray scale scree the Bushnell Yardage Pro XG Gray Scale Golf GPS

For the golfer that is looking for a simple to use GPS rangefinder, the Bushnell Yardage Pro XGC Color Golf GPS

is probably for you. This Bushnell Yardage Pro was Bushnell's first entry into the golf GPS market. Bushnell is a respected and very popular name in outdoor products.

The Yardage Pro will provide the golfer with the distance to the front, center and back of the green and also provide the distance of your drive. As you advance to the green the Yardage Pro will update the distance information. The obvious advantage over a laser range finder is that you don't have to be able to see the pin to know the distance to the green.

The Yardage Pro uses iGolf course maps. One course is included with the purchase of the Yardage Pro. A $34.95 annual subscription to iGolf is required to download up to 100 courses per year. The good news is that the courses are stored on your PC or Mac so if you don't renew your subscription, you still have the courses you have downloaded. The Bushnell Yardage Pro XGC Color Golf GPS or the Bushnell Yardage Pro XG Gray Scale Golf GPS unit will store up to 10 courses.

For Mac users, if you have a Mac OS X 10.4.4 or higher with Intel processor, you will be able to install the Sync application to download golf courses and transfer them to the golf GPS. The Yardage Pro comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a battery life of up to 15 hours.

Bushnell Golf GPS - DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT

This device does not work. Bought it for my Dad and boy was sorry I did. Everything downloaded fine, but there is some issue with the software. Won't display anything but 999. I know the unit was working, because the drive distance counted down, but from 999. I know the GPS was working, just not reading the course yardage. We tried it at two different courses. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE UNITS UNTIL THEY GET THEM WORKING!!!!

By Golf Chick, January 26, 2009

We have purchased two of these units in the last 3 months. The first one kept cutting out and having to be reset (annoying on the course) so we called the manufacturer and sent it back to be repaired or replaced. We haven't received it back yet, so don't know how that will go.

We thought this was one defective unit and my husband bought me one for Christmas. This one also cuts off and can't seem to find a GPS signal reliably. This is on the same course that the first one had no trouble finding a signal. I walked the entire course and never got a signal. In fact, the unit stopped trying to find the GPS (an icon flashes when it's looking and is solid when it's not). This was a waste. This time we're returning it for a refund and not messing around with it.

Update: Well after having the unit for 3 months, Bushnell said no refund, but they sent a new unit. We got it yesterday and out of the box it didn't work properly. Would not access a course we downloaded (paid membership, not trial). Tried troubleshooting it with no success. Supposedly this only happens if you're on a trial or have more than 10 courses loaded - we don't - just 2. This really was a waste of money.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he is really excited about it. He hasn't used it on the course yet (we have a foot of snow on our courses right now), but I can tell you the set up of the product was confusing. The words they instruct you to look for in the loosely termed 'quickstart guide' are often not found within the step you are going through and you have to infer thru trial and error. We did get it set up, after about 2-3 hours. Like I said, he hasn't used it yet, so I give it the benefit of the doubt with 3 stars because Bushnell is a good brand. But the customer experience so far with the set up is affecting our overall satisfaction with the product. My reco is they get their product guys on this quick. It would be a shame if the instructions were the barrier to purchase. I got a navigation system for Christmas and it was virtually plug and play. Maybe it'll be all worth it this spring!

This unit is great. Responds quickly to next shot. I still have not been able to download courses with Vista, so I used an older computer with XP and...(More) it worked just like the directions. I must say that this was my idea to try another computer. Bushnell and iGolf were not very helpful or responsive. I just hope I do not have any other problems. Also I signed up for one year with iGolf, but used 4 of the 100 downloads just trying to get one to work. iGolf did not offer to reset the meter so to speak.

i received this product on 1-9-09. i could not download any courses for three days, so i was not able to use it on my regular weekend golf. it is now 1-14-09 and i still have not been able to get it to work. i have e-mailed bushnell and i-golf who both have lousy customer service. i told them i have used three different computers, they say it is each others problem. i will be returning this product to the store it was purchased at, and trading it for a skycaddie. i also purchased a membership from i-golf to download courses

I certainly empathize with the first reviewer. I received the Bushnell as a XMAS gift but was unable initially to download courses. (They just would not transfer to the unit.) There were not clear directions about in what computer folder the courses were to go. However, after giving up on Vista from the home computer, I took the Bushnell to work and used the XP system there...IT WORKED GREAT! I took it golfing today (1-17-09) and it was so much fun - and easy to use! So, first reviewer, hang in there...if I can get it to work, I know you can, too.
