The TomTom 140 S and XL340 S Join TomTom Automotive GPS Systems line-up

TomTom Automotive GPS systems added two new units in April of 2010. The One 140 series and the XL 340 series. "The new automotive GPS systems, the TomTom ONE and TomTom XL devices strengthen our mid-range product offering considerably through the combination of first-class navigation and competitive price points," said Jocelyn Vigreux, president of TomTom Inc. "IQ Routes allows drivers to take those routes that only well-informed locals know. It takes away the stress of not knowing where to go and when you will arrive, as well as gives you a faster route in up to 35% of all cases. In addition, our Advanced Lane Guidance feature gives drivers the information they need to drive more safely and more confidently when dealing with complex road junctions." Both series sport a new look, both in exterior finish and the operating screen. The menu has been redone to be simpler and easier to use. (thank you) These automotive GPS systems both have the same features. The only difference is screen size. The One 140 units have a 3.5" screen while the XL 340 series have a 4.3" screen. Both come with "easy port" mounting systems. Included features are: 1. Maps of the US, Canada and Mexico 2. Lane Assist: give you advanced notice of which lane to be in for the approaching turn along with a picture of the intersection. 3. IQ Routes which will take into consideration traffic loads for the day of the week and time of day. 4. RDS-TMC traffic is optional on all units. 5. Map Share is included to update your maps from other users. 6. TomTom Home free software 7. Seven million Points of Interest with the ability to include your own. As soon as we can get owner feed-back on these automotive GPS systems and sales data we will have it available and update these reports. You may want to subscribe to our RSS blog to keep abreast of what is going on. At this rate, by the time you get done reading the information on these new units, they will be replaced with something else.

The navigator is great, much better than Garmin or other I have tried. I used it out of the box and it works really well. The only (and big) problem I found was during the first time I plugged it in my computer to use my free map update (valid for 30days after first log in). I downloaded and installed the TomTom Home software and then downloaded the updated maps. The software failed to install them and it keeps giving me an error message. First it said the download would not fit in the machine memory (How come?) then it just said there was an error. Guess what will happen? The 30-day free update will expire and I will have to pay for it then! That was a good way for TomTom to disappoint a new client, great product with poor support. I wrote them and am still waiting for a reply. By NB, April 18, 2010
This was my 2nd tomtom purchase and although I liked my 125, this model is terrble. I live on the beach and I can't get a signal until I'm almost a mile inland. The system constantly was analyzing routes every time I turned a corner. But I was most frustrated with the fact the when I tried to enter an address the unit wouldn't pull up anywhere close to where I needed to go and these are major roadways in an urban area. Walmart

For going from point to point this TomTom will get you there. It map data is not up to date. The resort and subdivision I was visiting was not correctly mapped. The resort is over ten years old. However lack of itinerary planning made it extremely hard to use. A trip can only easily be planned between two points. I wanted to plan a trip to Kansas City from Dallas but going through Anderson and Joplin MO. I never could figure away to get the GPS to route me the way I wanted to go. I wrote to the TomTom forum about my problem and was told that Itinerary planning was not part of the software package. I actually took the unit back for this reason. this gps works pretty good most of the time, sometimes it loses your location, first they tell you that it come with up to date maps, but you have to pay another $77 to get correct up to date maps. tomtom isnt what it used to be. Owner Ratings of the TomTom 140s Automotive GPS Systems
